V8 because some say "2 heads are better than one"

« : September 01, 2010, 08:45:56 am »

Have been thinking about this and something I read a while back. That Toyota have been building engines for unleaded fuel since 1975, so I did a little digging.

and found this on CruiserFAQ:
Quote
Valve seats improved (04/75)

and this on Mud:
Quote from: Mark W;807117
All F/2F/3F engines have very hard seats. Even the early ones. They are all perfectly happy with unleaded. Absolutely not an issue with an '81-'81 vintage rig.

Mark...

which contradicts what was said in the local publications a few years back:
Quote
The majority of older Toyotas can run on unleaded fuels.  In fact, that's the case for all models built after 1980, with a couple of exceptions:

- Land Cruiser FJ45, with F/2F engine.
- Land Cruiser FJ6#, with 2F/3F engine built before July 1987.
- Land Cruiser FJ7#, with 3F engine.

- Statement from Toyota in June-Sept issue of Drive Out.

I have always thought that one should not mess with them unless/until they give problems, and this theory seems to be backed by the wisdom of the Cruiser whisperer.

Hi guys,

I've been seeing more and more talk about the availability of LRP being phased out more aggressively in 2013. I've trawled through the old tech threads as I'm keen to swith over to ULP and this was the one that shed the most light on the topic for me, but I thought I'd refresh the conversation and see if anyone had any new info on the phasing out process. Would it be better to keep running on LRP and switch over time or could I just go ahead and switch over to ULP on a permanent basis?

I would (and have in my 2 and 3F) just use ULP, as I have said before over on LCCSA

I would be more concerned about using the correct oil - see http://www.gotbezel.com/index.php?topic=135.0

I use Flashlube on my 2F, but only open the needle when I filled ULP!

Can you source the "fluid" locally or do you import?
