Set off from Durban at 05h30 and fortunately missed a howling north easterly which was smack on the nose for those arriving in the late afternoon.

At the gate

 - the angle is the road slope, not the suspension.

Note the FasterFini compressor

By midday, after stopping at the main hide for a little while, we arraived at the Honorary Rangers camp at Ponweni

There is quite thick sand in the Park and it is a '4x4' Park for a reason but when it came to locking my hubs the left one was jammed vas. Early the next morning I pulled it out and tried to fix it - even went to the viewing platform with my 'fix'.

Herding baaad Rovers while waiting for Oscar Osberg to escort us to the platform.

Single file and very quiet

Oscar explaining about the forest wattle.

Our intrepid guide

Back at camp I realised that my 'fix' was not fixed and with the able assistance of Heinrich van Zweel and Mike Lauterbach the offending bits were bent and bashed back into shape.

Mind you, I wasn't the only one having problems...

Heinrich, Mike and Chard Black all have 50th birthdays very close to each other so their spouses decided to set up a surprise birthday party for them

The next morning we awoke to some glorious roars and a visit by four lions who were quite content to watch us through the fencing.

Some other scary wildlife...

Looking for game...

...and finding it.

But all good things had to come to an end.

(PS: As luck would have it we hit a really strong south westerly all the way home - 3rd gear up some of the hills and in that part of the world the hills are little!).
