Damaraland without the Legends - Part I

'Twas a full moon when we arrived in Grunau
Goggas and all
Meeting up with PS, Colleen and JT at Ais Ais
Wasn't aware that they had such nice indoor pools there
And then it was off to Useb via Canyon Roadhouse - plenty of storms all around us
But we made it in bright blue skies (pic refused to rotate)...
but within the hour...
After lunch however it cleared for a dust free journey to Useb campsite
The next morning JT & I were at the canyon view site to watch the moon set and the sun rise
Then onto Duiseb Castle and 'restaurant'.
The Naukluft on the way to Sosussvlei
Sosussvlei
Lynn at the vlei - "I thought this was a desert?"
Colleen and her EyePods
The Boys set off to climb the dune...
...and make it to the top!
Fairy Circle meditation
And a beer at the Lodge to wash the sand down
After two nights camping it was off to Swakopmund via Walvis. Lots of full rivers.
Then out of the Naukluft and onto the plains - still followed by storms. We never drove though any but the roads were nice and damp and a dust free pleasure to drive
It was about here that Fips called to say he was leaving Swakopmund as he had been sitting in the rain for three days and that the salt road north was impassable - bye, bye Fips. Sorry we missed you and thanks for taking the bad weather with you.
Entering Walvis
Oysters and tequila at the Raft
The next morning we awoke to a blue sky'd Swakopmund and set off on the impassable salt road north to Messum via Cape Cross
Stone desert you say! Why is it green?
Our Messum Crater campsite - beautiful!
JT and PS sundowning...
The evening was chilly...
...and so was the next morning
JT fixing (almost) my fused window master switch
And then it was off to Palmwag to meet the rest of the group - but that's Part II.

Dankie Oom...
For the others:
Useb = Hobas
Blue = Grey
Duiseb = Duwisib
tequila = JM
