How many late model 40s, as in late enough to have the handbrake located on the rear axle with Aussie LRT tanks fitted are on this forum ? Of those, who have the 5sp box ? Does your axle knock against your LRT when flexing hard ? It seems this problem is not uncommon in Aus on LX models, as the tanks wetre designed for earlier models ie 4sp and handbrake in the TC ?? Common fix seems to be BFH  :o

Will snap some when I get home JT. I was very surprised to hear that this was a "known" problem in Aus

I think Kermit's handbrake is not on the axle though, not sure about Darth Vader ? Would like to see his clearance.OD has huge bumpstops and I have never measured/ compared a "4sp" vs "5sp" chassis before  ???

Kermits handbrake is on the propshaft

DarthVaders handbrake is on the rear drums, but it hasnt done any axle twisting yet
But Ill have a close look

The chassis at the rear are the same, the late model ones had some changes to the front spring mounts...

...but it comes down to whether you have a transmission or an axle mounted hand brake.

I am guessing bumpstop's are the answer at the expense of rear articulation

Never happened on mine and will also not happen. Space between tank and axle is ample enough!

Could also be spring pack design, length from the fixed point.

Thanks for the feedback sofar.I have not forgotten and will take pics tonight.Adolf I bumped when both wheels hit potholes/ditches together not when flexing in axletwisters. Will try to find some big axletwisters this weekend to see what happens but sofar it seems it is only when both wheels flex upwards and rearwards with the springs.JT the others all seem to have been OME suspensioned 40 ser trucks and never an OEM susp so you might be on to something  ....

Piccha modified.

Theo, you hit two potholes at the same time with rear wheels?  :-\

Understand if there are plenty oles, but they are also not in line, or very seldom.
I very much doubt that my axle will reach LRT if it is bumped backwards, off course the
bump stops would help in that case, but then I would also hit the wheel arches, same with the flex.
