Theo

In that pic of you going up the dune, it appears that your axle/wheel is too far back in the wheelarch

I reckon your leafs are in back to front

I will measure Keith but I doubt they are the wrong way around. It is more plausable that the 4" Hell Creeks are longer from the fixed point to the centre locating pin of the spring perch.I remember reading that Tom from Hell Creek at a stage lengthened the 40 ser springs to improve flex and ride.

Adolf this is a pic where she is heavily loaded and towing. You can see the shackle angles are at about 60 deg IOW 15 deg more than the 45 deg which is regarded as the holy grail of shackle angles.

I went through some serious cross axles on Sat and never touched once. However going up Klippies  really hard we did hit what I though wwere just the bumpstops but visual confirmation proves we did hit the tank again so it is clear it only happens when the suspension on both sides bottoms out and the whole axle travels upwards and rearwards.Maybe I should just have the tank cut & welded in that area ..

Right - stock the axle centerline is 500mm from the centre of the fixed pin, so measure from the the pin in a straight line back to a perpendicular line that bisects the centreline of the axle. This measurement is the important one as lift springs will be longer if you measure along the length of the spring.

FWIW the stock SS of both front and rear springs is 505mm and the LS is 605mm, spring length is 1110mm and wheelbase is 2285mm (90") so if anything Theo's is a little short.

One other thing the distance between the centre of the pin eye and the shackle hanger is 1070mm both front and rear on early models and 1060(front)/1070(rear) on late models, they did this to make the ride less harsh by flattening the shackle angle in the front - by moving the front shackle hanger back 10mm

LRT was fitted incorrectly by PO and I now understand why .. Instead of the tank's rear mounting lip resting ontop of the chassis crosmember, my PO had it hanging from underneath.I have now slotted the holes more towards the tank (ie forward), fitted some longer U-bolts and shortened the tank's filler neck, thereby lifting the tank higher and upwards towards the tub to create space almost like a pendulum.Early indications are that I have created so much space that I will no longer have a problem.Dropping the tank in while the tub is in place does require some trickery though .. 8)
