Suggest you wait a few months, maybe Theo will then report the first defects!

What transfer case did you guys use? Is tere like a transfer box that bolts directly on to the 4 speed?
We used the stock H55F gearbox and stock transfer case.IIRC Mark uses and adapter to bolt the TC to the autobox. There is no need to change diffs etc - if anything the older stuff is more robust than the newer LC parts ! Speak to Mark Watson - he is just a phone call away and a very helpfull guy in general

Don't kill me for this admission, but I have a Chevy turbo diesel V8 (big block) in a 45 and apart from Birfields which like to explode when making sharp turns under power with the front locker on, even when towing 4 tonnes on a freshly graded sand (farm) road the axles don't break. (no, I do not abuse it. Just one instance where this was needed)
The small block Lexus engine will not stress the drivetrain too much (apart from the Birfields when you have a front locker, but many options to solve this).
Ok, the transfer cases can break when run low on oil or the cross shaft wobbles (cracks the housing in two). Easy fix, get the later split style transfer case, much larger cross shaft and does not really break.
My R0.02.

..........apart from Birfields which like to explode when making sharp turns under power with the front locker on, Hence lies the problem. Lockers on - keep wheels straight. It does not need power to break the birfields, and that's the reason my front Arb locker is still in the packing box 3 years later.

True words Grahame. Although, Marfields or Longfields sort this issue out quite easily (albeit somewhat expensively in the latter case).

hey guys this is kind of a hard question to answer but what would you guys say is like a normal price on a h55 manual box? i see ultimate 4x4 in Pretoria is selling a 5 speed manual plus transfer case for 13000? RECONDITIONED with a warranty< and that doesn't sound like a bad price to me?
you guys know of any places that sell these gearboxes? or that strip land cruisers maybe and sell the parts?

Doesn't sound like a bad price, they are not easy to come by and rebuilding one can cost a fair bit depending on what needs to be done, I have seen one that was beyond repair upon closer inspection.
