Awaiting another of my garages to come free by end of this week, I need more space  ;D

Busy building a stand like this for the tub to be mounted on
(http://lh4.ggpht.com/_yWSvGnM7TQk/Sz8PooTO9KI/AAAAAAAAATg/liLgzfmq46w/volkers_resto_079.JPG)
so the PB can start his destructive job under my supervision within the next 2 weeks, hopefully ?!?!

Have to get the tub sandblasted first, because I found, that in some places there is a lot more filler than metal  :o ( (pics to follow)

Got a hoist now so once I have the PB going, I will take of the engine + gearbox and start on frame and axles myself.

Does anybody have some sort of construction drawing for an temp. engine stand ?

Hope that keeps the bass happy for a couple of days  :jt:

Fipps, that chassis does need some attention.  :'(

What are the implications if you swop chassis in Germany?  Regarding a paper trail? Will you get a TUV or will the 40 change identity to the new 40 chassis?

Sorry Salo, only saw your comment now: Paper trail would not be a great hassle, but to get another one in EU,which OK, is a lifetimes experience :'(

After a few ( :jt:) days absence, here a little update:

The weather here is really beautifull, wasting half of my time feeding the stove with wood (averige temp -10 to +2 °C) >:(

1. Got big compressor, still need to pipe up the various workshops.
2. Got sandblaster (old) from a friend, which needed a resto first (still in progress).
3. Getting plenty of machines, tools and, and, and ..... (in progress)
4. Finding a decent sandblasting shop in Trier, which is a task; one only does trucks with 2 mm sand, the next wants $$$$$$$$$$$$$$, the 3rd - machine kaputt !!! That's it ! (Trier = Bundu) !!!!!

Finding good people for metal works realy is a PITA here, either big blabla or big $$$$$ + blabla.

Anyway, I will get the job done, it may just take a little longer (without Joe & Philamon, only Fips on the tool & broom  :jt:).

Plenty of prep work done but nothing much exciting:

Approx. 120 rivets gone, another 40 to go  :'(
Frame needs complete dismantling as the whole back part must be replaced (see above) as well as a portion of the inner frame (at the end kink - approx. 30 cm).
Those ammo boxes I use to stand on also need to be emptied before being used  :P

Hope to have frame stripped & parts sandblasted before SA-trip and have it galvanised while abroad.
Hope to have summer temperatures (10 °C up) when back here midd May so I can speed up progress wearing SA-knickers (shorts) :drinks:.

Fips be sure to research embrittlement(there are 3 types to be concerned about), but more specifically hydrogen embrittlement before you commit to galvanising. Here is some light reading to get you started http://www.azom.com/details.asp?ArticleID=1407

Late but never too late, thank you !

Could somebody give me the exact diameter of the hole without the flange, pls !

Need exact dimensions for No. 1 & No. 2 mounts, the plain holes without flange !

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_1982_TOYOTA_LAND+CRUISER_BJ42LV-KCW_5151.2.html

While posting this, a tiny update, although very busy with FIFA  :drinks::

Had new cross members (inner front & rear) shaped, doing the diagonals + rear triangular sprong mounts, next will be  some repair on the inner back frame then the tub mounts once I have the dimensions. Last parts will be the back tub mounts  Have ordered spec. ellen type screws for bolting frame together again.

Expect complete axle overhaul kits (front +rear) from US end of this week !

Will post pics only once at least frame is in one piece again ! When ???
Don't ask SQ  :P

Need to turn myself the 4 tub 'flanges' (2 x rear cm + 2 x No. 1 body mount) !

What should be the approx. thickness, since the remaining 1s where less than 1 mm ?

Looking around the forum I wonder, if there is still anybody alive and therefore worthwhile to post anything regarding my progress  :jt:

Yes please. 8) The more info the better. It will help us all.

I have also started restoring again. At the moment I am getting my BJ ready for a trip and weather strips is one of the items high on the list.
